About Us

The Dewsbury, Wakefield and Pontefract GP Specialist Training Programme provides training for doctors wishing to become GPs across the hospitals and GP training practices around Dewsbury, Wakefield and Pontefract. We currently have ovee 110 doctors in training programmes.

All of our GP training practices have been approved for GP training by the Yorkshire and Humber General Practice Deanery. Our practices vary from large town pracgtices to small, rural, dispensing practices. Some are in affluent areas others are in very deprived areas. All of our training posts have 18 months in general practice training posts and 18 months in hospital posts. The hospital posts are largely undertaken in posts in the hospitals of the Mid Yorks NHS Trust. They have a modern hospital at Dewsbury and in 2011 commissioned a brand new hospital in Wakefield - Pinderfields.

Training programmes are run at Pinderfields Medical Education Centre and at training suites in two of our local training practices - Adwalton Surgery at Drighlington and Kings Medical Centre at Normanton.
